Carrol, IA

April 19th, 2017

This day started out a little slow. We were waiting for the cap to break in the Avoca, IA area with several chasers. This is where I met Jake at. We all headed a bit north close to Harlan. Waited around there and saw some returns on the radar that looked like things were going to get going west of Omaha, NE. We started chasing then we (Jake and I) broke off from the group and went south a bit more.  We ended up close to Shenendoah, IA Watched from there for a bit, then decided to go back north since the storms were not looking like much rotation at all.  So we ended up back north of Avoca and watched the storms on radar there and decided to go chase these storms, this is when my gopro died.  (not very happy at this moment)  We go on this really nice looking storm with great inflow and it was producing a lot of funnels (small ones) as we kept trying to keep pace with it before dark.  we finally had to give up due to some bad roads and dark conditions.  but finally seen a tornado on the ground as we were going down the road trying to catch up with it.  This one produced a smaller ef0-1 for only a short distance.
