Today was a 5% day turned 10%. The only thing that was going to make the difference on this day was when the storms fired up and how quickly they evolved. The day started with Steven Solie and I meeting up in Wilmar, MN and looking over data. We were sitting outside of town just a bit after catching a bite to eat before the chase and decided to go to Benson, MN closer to the triple point. This is where I made a small mistake and getting just north of the warm front as apparent by the clouds just south of me. I also met Hunter Anderson this day. I met up with Duane Walter and Jacob Tepsa during the chase. We started off just east of Benson, MN, where we were watching a storm develop just to our west. so we decided to start pursuing it. When in Benson we ended up getting cut off by a train…(this may have hurt us in the time to come) as we went to the next road south…but this road ended up going south west and we ended up back tracking a lot as the storm took a wicked right turn and it went tornado warned. I keep wondering if I would have just waited for the train if I could have gotten in front of this storm earlier and gotten better footage. Also if I would have had my 360 dome ready if I maybe would have seen more. But we finally ended up getting in front of the storm after a long pursuit near Clarkfield, MN…abgout 30 miles from South Dakota. The storm had some great structure, and eventually put out a great lightning show. We have a really nice wall cloud and rotation as well with this storm, just wish I would have waiting in Benson to get a more direct route to where the storm was going. Ws a very fun chase though.
